The World Against CancerFor many of us cancer has claimed our loved ones, continues to haunt and ravage others, as well as threaten our very existence. We seek to summon the World to fight Cancer and defeat it through sharing knowledge.
MissionThe intent of this site is to link all relevant cancer sites, sorting them by subjects appearing on the web page. An unrivalled feature of this site is the availability of multiple search engines that enable the user to access virtually all the information available on the Net without having to leave the site, thus making it a one-stop cancer information source. In order to encourage and increase accessibility to this site to the greatest number of potential viewers, a translation capability into French, German, Italian, Spanish & Portuguese, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Filipino, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Serbian, Slovenian, Swedish and Welsh has been introduced; that in addition to Arabic, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. A "Multilingual" button will explain and direct user to search and translation facilities available. Another feature is an online medical dictionary appearing in the menu. This site is designed to be interactive: users have the chance (and are encouraged) to propose new links, suggest new features they would like to see, items to be improved or deleted, etc. In this way the site can thrive and grow geometrically, spreading its tentacles like cancer, but this time in the dissemination of a body of knowledge of such power, magnitude and acceleration that it can successfully engage and conquer cancer. This is my dream. There is a thin red line that separates sanity from insanity and reality from the bizarre. I chose to walk this line. I invite you all to share my dream.
The World Against Cancer (TWAC)IntroductionThe World Against Cancer (TWAC) is a Website dedicated to winning the fight against cancer. It was prompted by the encounter of beloved ones with cancer. It is important to clarify that this is a non-profit site and not set up to compete with any other website or organization. On the contrary, we see our site as a complement and enhancement to other existing cancer websites. We have no axes to grind except with cancer. TWAC has been put together with limited resources. There are websites for organizations out there that have budgets bigger than those of many countries, they have presence in many a geographic location, have their own hospitals, research centers and labs etc. Many existing cancer websites seek to promote a particular organization, a hospital, a school of thought or an approach. It may provide links to a few designated sites. Even different search engines can have dissimilar databases of sites. In TWAC we have drawn our strength from our weakness we have nothing to sell but availing knowledge to fight cancer. TWAC does not intend to reinvent the wheel as such. Rather, it intends to introduce connectivity and string together all relevant sites, their strengths and what they have to offer into a monolithic mass of up-to-the-minute knowledge on cancer, types, prevention, diagnosis, conventional and complementary medicine, cancer news, treatment options, cutting edge research and clinical trials. This information would be of benefit to the user whether he/she be a doctor, scientist, researcher, consumer advocate, concerned family member or a friend of a patient or a patient himself. Up to this time users have had to canvass the net and look for various search engines here and there, access sites in various locations and battle with language barriers etc. but not now that TWAC is here. Accessibility to TWAC is increased by the introduction of multiple multilingual search engines and translation facilities that render all relevant information on the World Wide Web available to the user without having to leave TWAC thus making it a one-stop cancer information source. The biggest challenge to TWAC as well as any other website asides from the need for periodic updating, as technology is not at a stand still, is a sound marketing strategy that would hopefully ensure better distribution making it highly rated with top search engines. We welcome any suggestions that will make this endeavour easier. TWAC is designed to be interactive: users have the chance (and are encouraged) to propose new links, suggest new features they would like to see, items to be improved or deleted, etc. In this way the site can thrive and grow geometrically, spreading its tentacles like cancer, but this time in the dissemination of a body of knowledge of such power, magnitude and acceleration that it can successfully engage and conquer cancer. Life is a struggle... Give a meaning to life. It is not how long we live but how we live life. This is what can differentiate mankind from other living creatures. From the moment we are born into this world, we struggle for breath. Never give up the struggle, do not let the culprit win. Fight it with exchange of knowledge, will power and determination. Fight cancer.
The World Against Cancer (TWAC) is a website dedicated to winning the fight against cancer.
